Everyone wishes to have a meaningful career, a career that helps them have a purpose in life so successful career translates to a job you love, attractive salary package and powerful designation.  Selecting and building a career that you really feel passionate about is not a child play. However, with a right strategy and focus, you can move your career in the right direction.

To create a successful career growth/ transition, we list down a few practical steps that would help you build your dream career. 

Step 1: Identify your goal by undergoing self-assessment

Sadly, we might choose an industry or a career in our twenties when we felt it is cool and then gradually feel struck to you, but the good news is, you can also start exploring other avenues based on your interest, your skills and career aspirations along with your current role.  There is no dearth of Self-learning courses that will help you to upgrade yourself. In fact, many organisations nowadays actively invest in employee’s L&D and encourage cross movement to retain the talent.

•    Where would you want to be in the organization?

•    What is important to you in the career?


Step 2: Prepare a Professional resume and start looking for opportunities

So, now you have identified your strength and are ready to seek opportunity, you should keep your tools ready. Your foremost tool to market yourself is your professional resume. Invest time & efforts in crafting your resume. You can take help from professional career counsellors and resume writers. Well-drafted resume will showcase your strength and will help you position ahead of other candidates.

Step 3:  Stay Focussed – Mark your accomplishments

 By this time you understand that your career is completely your choice so for every decision, you should align with job satisfaction that you want in the Long -run. You need to analysis the opportunity you receive in the light what legacy you want or the skills you wish to master.  Please remember this Growth Plan should be your living document; needs and goals will undoubtedly evolve over time.

Step 4: Promote & Brand Yourself

To find the right opportunity you need to promote yourself, your skill set and what you can deliver. You can promote yourself on social media.  Create a facebook community, network with Industry experts on Linkedin or create your influence on Twitter, also if you wish you can start your own blog. Over the time, these small investments will heap huge benefit.

Step 5 -  Creating Accountability

It is easier to digress to your comfort zone unless you have a super strong will or someone you are accountable to. You can share your career growth plan among your close friends and share them how and by when you are planning any growth activity. They can keep a check on you, this would serve you as motivation.
